THE SABBATH

The definition of the sabbath is as follows. Biblical Sabbath is a weekly day of rest or time of worship given in the Bible as the seventh day. It is observed differently in Judaism and Christianity and informs a similar occasion in several other faiths. Though many viewpoints and definitions have arisen over the millennia, most originate in the same textual tradition of “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy

Some of my friends observe the Sabbath on Saturday. My friend Victoria does this.

Victoria is not only my friend but also my media consultant. As a result, I have learned to try to not bug her incessantly about business matters on this day. It is hard because it seems as if Saturday is the day when all of my questions become a priority. (Go figure)

While researching the Sabbath, I came across some interesting information.

In the following article https://www.gotquestions.org/Saturday-Sunday.html. It shows that the Sabbath is unnecessary. I disagree with this profession of faith and I would like to provide another article for study. https://www.ucg.org/bible-study-tools/booklets/sunset-to-sunset-gods-sabbath-rest/jesus-christ-and-the-sabbath

Jesus commonly taught in the Synagogue on the Sabbath. So he observed the Sabbath.

Amid a pandemic when most churches have closed their doors, how are we to observe the Sabbath and worship God?

I watch my church online. https://gatewaypeople.com/sermons/the-three-truths-of-palm-sunday Today I couldn’t find the current sermon, so I watched the one which I provided. It was an excellent message. It spoke to me in so many ways.

The second thing I did was to turn my phone off.

WHAT?!!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

No, I am not kidding! I texted a friend I had been conversing with to let him know I would do so and shut it down. He is a new friend, and I didn’t want him to think I was ghosting him. Everybody else would have to wonder what happened to me.

It was difficult! I check into my phone a million times a day. Responding to Facebook, texting friends or reading the news. Yet, how much of that includes worshipping God? Very little if any.

I wanted to focus on God and Him alone.

After watching Church, I had to clean my kitchen.

WHAT?

Isn’t that work and you are NOT supposed to work on the Sabbath!

You are right, but my kitchen being dirty was distracting me from God. So I took care of that.

Then I did some laundry.

Okay, I know the laundry could have waited, but I had wash sitting wet in the washer, from two days ago, and I didn’t want it to mildew.

Well, that is not what a true Christian would do, is it? I mean laundry is work and you are NOT supposed to work on the Sabbath!

“And He said to them, ‘The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath’ ” (Mark 2:27-28).

The thing about the Sabbath is that God designed it to be a day of rest. That way we have something to look forward to.

Besides rest, the Sabbath is to be a day of worship. It should be a celebration of connecting to God in a special way for both of you.

I truly enjoy the Sabbath because like most days I focus on God but try to do more on this special day to honor and worship Him.
